BCMPA announces passing of former CEO Rodney Steel

The BCMPA has announced that Rodney Steel, former chief executive of the BCMPA, has passed away following a short illness.

A well-known figure across the contract manufacturing, packing and logistics sectors, Steel had successfully led the BCMPA since 2003 until his retirement in June last year.

During this time the Association developed into a major force, promoting the services of the UK’s contract manufacturing, packing, fulfilment and logistics sectors to global brands, retailers and entrepreneurs.

Emma Verkaik, chief executive of the BCMPA, paid tribute to Steel.

“We are all hugely saddened by this news and send our deepest sympathy to Rodney’s family and friends. Rodney was the driving force in building the BCMPA into the respected Trade Association it has become today.

“Rodney dedicated his time to creating opportunities and platforms for BCMPA members to raise awareness of their businesses. He was responsible for the collaboration with Easyfairs, and the development of the BCMPA Contract Pack & Fulfilment Show at Packaging Innovations. As well as introducing the BCMPA Sponsored ‘Co Manufacturer & Packer of the Year Award’, as part of the UK Packaging Awards. He will be deeply missed by myself, the BCMPA members, and the industry at large.”

Martin Kersh, executive director of the Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA), added:  “He was a really good person. Kind, fun and always interesting. A pioneer.”

Messages of condolence can be emailed to info@bcmpa.org or posted to its head office for the BCMPA to collate and pass on to Steel’s family.
