Apple and Amkor to build advanced packaging facility in Arizona

Apple and Amkor plan to build the largest outsourced advanced packaging facility in America, with Amkor packaging Apple silicon.

Apple is set to become the first and largest customer of Amkor’s facility in Peoria, Arizona, fulfilling a mutual ambition to manufacture within the U.S.

Apple have recently committed to investing $430 billion into the US economy over 5 years, the company seems to be on track to hit target through direct spend with American suppliers, data centres, capital expenditure, and more.

This project will see a $2 billion investment from Amkor as well as the employment of over 2000 people.

“Apple is committed to the future of American manufacturing,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Apple silicone has unlocked new levels of performance, enabling them to do things they previously couldn’t do.”

Apple recently revealed they would be packaging their Apple Watch line in fibre-based, label-free packaging. Apple plans to be phased out of using plastics by 2025.
