Bell Beverage Packaging & CCEP launch carbon cutting HVO vehicle trial

Ball Beverage Packaging and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) have confirmed a new UK trial of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) part-fuelled vehicles.

If this trial is successful, then it could remove around 300 tonnes of CO2e emissions each year. Research has stated that HVO is a renewable alternative and could save roughly 90% of the carbon footprint related to supply chain transportation.

HVO can be used as the primary source of fuel for a vehicle in conjunction with diesel without any change to existing engines or additional vehicle maintenance. Around 5,000 deliveries will be powered by this new alternative during this trial.

Tom McCarthy, vice president of integrated business planning at Ball Beverage Packaging EMEA, said: “Tackling emissions from transport is extremely important to us – from production of the can to final delivery stage.”

Francisco Javier Sanchez Gandarias, vice president customer service and supply chain at CCEP GB, said: “We see it as our responsibility as a leading manufacturer in GB to support collaboration along the supply chain. We are continuing to encourage all of our third-party partners to transition to lower carbon solutions so we can produce and deliver the drinks people more sustainably.”
