Mondi and ATS-Tanner partner on kraft paper banding solution

Mondi and ATS-Tanner have developed a type of packaging made from kraft paper that they claim is sufficiently sturdy to replace plastic for both single and bundled items. This packaging solution is well-suited for various applications such as fruits, vegetables, beverages, and e-commerce products.

ATS-Tanner uses Mondi’s kraft paper Advantage MF SpringPack and converts it into a band by adding a functional barrier on both sides of the paper. The band is then sealed using ultrasound, eliminating the need for adhesive. The companies believe that this approach provides a secure packaging solution while minimizing waste and delivering a cost-effective outcome. ATS-Tanner offers the coated bands under the TruePaper brand.

“We have had solutions for [bandings] for some time, but they have not always been flexible enough. With TruePaper, we now have a solution that is extremely flexible and accepted in legal terms throughout Europe that is ahead of its time and also complies with future rules,” Thomas Weber, content manager at ATS-Tanner, tells PackagingInsights.
