Waitrose enhances Southwest supply chain with Bristol distribution centre

Waitrose is set to establish its first supply hub in the Southwest of England, backed by a multi-million-pound investment. The 360,000 sq ft distribution centre, located at Mountpark’s Bristol 360 logistics site, is scheduled to open in Autumn 2026 and will serve around fifty existing regional Waitrose stores, with capacity for future expansion.

The new centre is the latest development in Waitrose’s broader strategy to modernise its supply chain and support planned growth, including new stores across the UK. Waitrose is due to launch two new stores in Bristol before the end of 2027, one of which is to come later this year.

Waitrose’s Supply Chain Director, Alison Maffin, commented, “This multi-million-pound investment is an important step in modernising our supply chain and setting us up to build the capacity needed for our growth plans. It will enable us to better serve our customers in the region, more efficiently supply our existing shops, and reduce our operating costs and carbon emissions. The modern and sustainable features of Mountpark’s Bristol 360 make it an excellent fit for our business.”

Bristol 360 is a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient logistics hub with over 1,200 solar panels, natural lighting, and landscaped surroundings. Rated BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and EPC A+, it supports Waitrose’s goal to be fossil fuel free by 2030 and net zero by 2035, cutting 2,225 tonnes of CO₂ annually from its supply chain.

Future Growth

Waitrose currently operates four regional distribution centres in Aylesford, Bracknell, Brinklow, and Leyland, along with three national hubs and two online fulfilment centres in Greater London. The new Bristol 360 site will be its first regional hub dedicated to the Southwest, boosting delivery efficiency for stores in the area.

Strategically located at Central Park, Avonmouth, the site will benefit from improved connectivity via the upcoming M49 junction, enhancing access to national freight routes.
