DHL and Mars UK open new logistics facility with automated palletisation

DHL and Mars UK have announced the opening of a new state of the art warehousing facility, London Thames Gateway.

Mars UK has recently unveiled its state-of-the-art logistics operation, marking the completion of a £350 million investment and a strategic partnership with DHL. This groundbreaking initiative comes hot on the heels of the successful opening of the East Midlands Gateway facility in May 2022.

The primary objective of this ambitious project is to significantly reduce Mars UK’s logistics carbon footprint by an impressive 7.7% while eliminating a staggering one million miles from roads each year. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, such as automated pallet storage and retrieval (ASRS) systems, the streamlined operations promise optimal efficiency. Moreover, the Gateway facility boasts advanced features like high-frequency charging for equipment, resulting in up to 30% less energy usage. The commitment to sustainability is further highlighted through rainwater harvesting and widespread implementation of energy-efficient LED lighting.

Mars UK, renowned for its popular household brands like Whiskas, Pedigree, Celebrations, and Ben’s Original, faces the mammoth task of transporting over 1.2 million pallets of its products annually. With the addition of these two new sites, the company’s warehousing capacity in the UK will soar by over 50%.
