Acidic filling (such as olives or sauerkraut) is widely considered as one of the most challenging flexible packaging applications due to the low pH and its ‘aggressive’ nature against adhesives.
Nonetheless, Plastimak has developed a unique structure under its EcoMak | Recyclable PP line that allows for the substitution of the traditionally used, and widely unrecyclable, PET metalized and Aluminum, utilizing instead newly-developed versions of Polypropylene to deliver a mono-material packaging that is fully recyclable while offering barriers to light, oxygen and water vapours.
The innovative structure also ensures that the product remains unaltered, as the low pH filling is contained successfully. In addition, the structure is rigid enough to take the form of a Doypack stand-up pouch, with all the additional benefits thus derived, such as ease-of-use and shelf appeal.
