Unilever approached the Alexir Partnership to design and develop a bespoke, premium tea gift box for selected winners of the Dutch National Lottery. The two key factors in the project revolved around the user opening experience and the reusability of the gift pack for future tea storage. Alexir Creative and Alexir Brands were tasked with finding, testing and proposing multiple gift packs with the final decision taken on a bespoke-designed bamboo box.
Once this decision was made, Alexir International designed the bamboo boxes in the UK with the manufacturing taking place at a factory in the Far East. The boxes are made from the highest quality bamboo to provide a smooth, clean finish. The structure of the bamboo box and lid help to ensure complete protection of the contents inside. Bamboo dividers were created and placed in equal sections to ensure that they perfectly matched the size of the Pukka tea bags. These dividers helped to not only provide strength but also to elevate the opening experience. The box was designed for the tea bags to be laid flat inside the cavities, ensuring that the tea bags were easy to access and refill.
The lid and bottom of the box were carefully and intricately laser burned with a pattern and the FSC logo, while a magnetic closure and thumb cut opening were added to make it easy to open and enhance the premium nature of the gift.
Additionally, Alexir Packaging printed the internal leaflets. It was essential that a high print coverage was achieved and that the colours used were perfectly matched to the tea bags inside the box for continuation across the brand. Metallic inks were added to intensify to the luxury feel of the product.
The finished boxes were packed in the UK by the co-packing division at Alexir, based in Sussex. Minimal external packaging was used to reduce the packing time and the same-size sections created by the dividers helped create easy and secure placement of the tea bags.
