Poll shows eco-conscious consumers prefer compostables to recycled plastic
A new survey of consumers across the UK has found that eco-conscious consumers are more likely to prefer compostable materials over recycled plastics.
According to TIPA, a compostable packaging company, in the UK, around 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging are used annually, but less than 10% of it is recycled.
The study shows that 58% of environmentally aware consumers believe that discovering substitutes for conventional plastic packaging is crucial. Additionally, respondents who favor compostable packaging are considerably more willing to pay extra for alternative food packaging (73%) than those who prefer recycled plastics (53%).
