Sirane announces ‘world first’ ovenable packaging printed with water-based inks

Sirane has released a range of ovenable films and pouches printed with water-based inks in a reported first for the packaging industry.

The packaging materials used are said to be compliant with both EU and FDA regulations, and have been printed and laminated with water-based inks and adhesives. These materials have been subjected to testing by Smithers, and it has been reported that they perform safely in ovens at temperatures of up to 220°C (430°F).

To decorate the packaging, Sirane uses its Amethyst print technology, which delivers high print definition, superior image clarity, and increased densities, without incurring any plate costs. The ink system used is water-based, which is believed to minimize the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during production.

Additionally, the water-based adhesives used in the packaging are free from substances that can lead to the release of aromatic amines, as opposed to solvent-based alternatives, which can expose people to carcinogens.
