FPA shocked at single-use plastic consultation leak

The Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) has expressed surprise that findings from the consultation on single-use plastic cutlery have been made public ahead of its publication.

The consultation’s results are set to be published this week (14 January) but the media has reported that the government will press ahead with a ban on single-use plastic cutlery, plates and trays.

In a statement to Packaging News, FPA executive director Martin Kersh said that it was “shocking” that the findings have been leaked to the media and have not been shared with businesses.

“This puts industry, which shares the government’s goal of reducing litter, reducing excess plastic consumption and helping to curb climate change, in a very difficult position when called on to respond to speculation over the contents of an unpublished consultation response,” he said.
